The people of Coastal Odisha in general and Activists in general urged the Government for rapid industrialisation of the area for speedy economic growth and to minimise large scale migration for livelihood . In a letter to Chief Minister of Odisha , Mr Chita Ranjan Sahu , Advocate & Secretary “ JANMAT “ requested the C M for his kind intervention to expedite the JSW Project in Jagtsinghpur district .
JSW proposes to establish an Integrated Steel Plant along with a captive Jetty with an invest of 55,000 crore at the same location where erstwhile POSCO proposed to establish a same plant with same capacity
The people of Odisha along with “JANMAT” had opposed the POSCO Project which was a foreign company. Unlike POSCO, JSW is a domestic company and they have the track record of meeting the aspiration of the people.JSW has taken over the Bhusan Plant at Jharsuguda and hence has a local presence in Odisha. Besides JSW has cement plant in Odisha. The trust worthiness of JSW can be drawn from a very simple fact that they are asking less land (upto 1000 Ac) for a plant of same capacity and still accommodating more facilities like cement grinding unit.
JSW is not asking for swapping of iron ore unlike POSCO did in its MoU . JSW has four iron ore mines and the ore supply to the Steel Plants located in other States. The same ore can be utilized in the proposed
Jagatsinghpur Steel Plant.
JSW has promised to provide employment opportunity to 1000 youth from the site location, in the plants located in other states. This shows the genuineness of the company for the wellbeing of the local people, where they are proposing engagement even prior to putting a stone on field.
With this background people of coastal Odisha are supporting the JSW Steel Plant at Jagatsinghpur district and “ JANMAT” urged the C M to personally intervene for the speedy progress of this project for rapid growth of Odisha .
