Their is widespread resentment among the people due to elephant menace in Angul forest division due to loss of lives & property . Around 70 persons were killed and 80 elephants were died in last 5 years due to human -elephants conflict in Angul district.

“Rapid industrialisation & mining activities in Angul & Dhenkanal districts adversely  impacted forest cover , elephant corridors and water sources leading to erratic movements of elephants and subsequent human -elephants conflict. “- told Mr Rabindra Prasad Pattanaik, President, Citizens Action Forum .

Massive coal mining expansion in elephant forests and large  industries around it , have  led to this conflict . “ There is no proper tracking of elephants in Bantala range , which lead to high number of human casualties “ -told Mr Ashok Satpathy , environmentalist.
