Elephant trampled two women in Angul

People became panic after an elephant killed two women at Badakantakula village of Angul block on Monday morning .
The deceased were identified as Muni Pradhan and Gouri Roul .
The elephant trampled the two women , when they were collecting mangos in the morning.
The elephant trampled Muni , killing her on the spot while Gouri sustained critical injuries after elephant attack and was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where she died during treatment.
8 people have killed in Angul in last 3 months due to elephant attack .
Their is widespread resentment among the people due to elephant menace in Angul forest division due to loss of lives & property . Around 70 persons were killed and 80 elephants were died in last 5 years due to human -elephants conflict in Angul district.
“Rapid industrialisation & mining activities in Angul & Dhenkanal districts adversely impacted forest cover , elephant corridors and water sources leading to erratic movements of elephants and subsequent human -elephants conflict. “- told Mr Rabindra Prasad Pattanaik, President, Citizens Action Forum .
Massive coal mining expansion in elephant forests and large industries around it , have led to this conflict . “ There is no proper tracking of elephants in Bantala range , which lead to high number of human casualties “ -told Mr Ashok Satpathy , environmentalist.
